Scene 1

(Cue music: “Let My Love Open the door” chorus by Pete Townshend chorus plays)

(Host walks through the door on stage)

Host:   Good morning and welcome to “Be My Guest!” the show where we try to link one lucky contestant with the best possible guests for their upcoming dinner or event.

I’m your host Ewe-linda!

Last week almost went a little fowl but once our contestant Tim Turkey opened the 3rd and final door, he was able to find just the right animal to accompany him to the homecoming dance.

This week we have another fabulous contestant for you!  Now, I ask our studio audience, don’t you think eating dinner alone on your birthday would be such a baaaaaa-d thing?  Especially for a handsome little cow turning 5 this year.  That’s why we’re here to help our friend Angus find the brightest and most entertaining guests for his birthday party dinner!

Let’s welcome Angus to the stage!

(audience claps and cue music, “Let My Love Open the Door”)

(Host and Angus take a seat on the stools)

Angus:  Thanks Ewe-linda, I’m really excited to be here! I know they say that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but I’m really hoping you can lead me to some greener pastures this morning!

Host: Of course! We will do our best.    Now as a reminder to Angus and our audience, Angus will get to meet three potential guests that he could invite to his dinner party. He will get to interview them but the contestants will have to remain behind closed doors until he makes his selection!   Alright Angus, are you ready to meet your first potential guest?

Angus: Yup! I’m ready Ewe-linda!

Host: Let’s meet our first contestant behind door #1!

(Cue music- short musical interlude from Let my Love Open the Door)

Scene 2: Interviewing the Guests

(Door opens on stage left and guest #1 steps out but the host and contestant are on stage right and contestant has back turned so he cannot see the mystery guests. Congregation should be able to see each guest)

Host: Our first guest is Jack Rabbit, welcome Jack!

Guest 1: (Jack talks fast, very hyper)     Hi! Glad to be here! Oh wow- look at all the people here.  Y’all look so cute and tiny out there!  (squints)

(said dramatically and a little slower for emphasis) Oh and the lights! You’ve got a spot light out up there though…you really should get that fixed. It would highlight my profile better.

Host: I’d say our first guest is awake and ready to go this morning! Let’s get started with the first question, Angus…

Angus: So guest #1, what are some things you like to do for fun?

Guest 1:  I love playing sports, running, jumping, playing with my friends outside in the field.   (starts jumping as if jumping rope)

(keeps jumping as next question is asked)

Angus: Jack, what are your favorite foods to eat for dinner?

(Jack keeps jumping and pretends he is distracted)

Angus: (looks confused and waits for answer)

Host: Jack are you there? ….Jack, please stop jumping around and answer the question.

Jack: Oh sorry, can you repeat the question?

Angus: Jack, what are your favorite foods to eat for dinner?

Guest 1: Lettuce and carrots are my favorite foods (pulls out carrot) but you know every once in a while I love a nice hot plate of lasagna.  This one time on a family vacation we got a flat tire and had to go what must have been 2,000 hops up the road to find help. We stumbled upon this amazing Italian restaurant and they had the best lasagna!

Host: Jack sure has a lot to add to the conversation now doesn’t he?  (laughs and looks at Angus)    Alright Jack, let’s let Angus ask his last question for you.

Angus:  If you could invite anyone else to my dinner party, who would you invite and why?

Guest 1: That would have to be my brothers and sisters!

Host: Well that’s a nice gesture. You must have a close family. How many brothers and sisters do you have?

Guest 1: 153! But probably by the time of your birthday Angus, that might be more like 160. Hope there will be enough room!

(Host and Angus look at audience in shock)

Host: Well Jack, you sure have a big family! That’s all the questions we have time for, thanks for being with us today! Hop along now!

(Jack goes back behind the door and closes it)

Host: So Angus, what did you think of Jack?

Angus: Well, i’m not so sure about the extra guests for my birthday dinner but Jack does sound like he would bring a lot of energy. And I’m not too big on salad….I don’t know how people can eat that stuff. (makes a grossed out face)  YUCK!    And was it just me or did he seem a little hyper and distracted?   I’m not sure if I could put up with him at my birthday party for more than a couple minutes!

Host: (Laughs) Sounds like he would be a fun guest at your birthday dinner though… he would just keep the party going, and going, and going….

Well it’s time for our next guest, let’s welcome our next guest behind door #2!

Host: Welcome to the show Freddie!

Guest 2:  Hey everyone! I’m glad to be here!     Rise Up!      (Falcon sound effect)

Angus: So Freddie, I’m curious what kind of activities you like to do in your free time?

Guest 2:  Mostly I enjoy watching my favorite shows on Netflix, texting with my friends, and playing video games.

Angus: Do you like the outdoors or playing any active games?

Guest 2: Well, to be honest I’m not very good at sports. You see, I was born with a defective left wing so I’m not able to fly around like all the other birds my age. I like watching the Planet Earth dvd’s though, they give me a taste of what it would be like if I could actually fly. Sometimes I wish I could soar over the mountains like everyone else in my family!

Angus: I bet. You sure are missing out by not going out to explore all the mountains and hills we have around us!!   But I bet your right wing must be fast at typing if you text message your friends with only one wing!

So Freddie,  If you could invite ONE other person to the dinner party who would you invite and why?

Guest 2:  Hmm…I think I’d invite Julio Jones.     He’s quite a catch (look at audience)

Host: (laughs)   Well, I’m more of a Matt Ryan fan myself but I guess Julio Jones wouldn’t be a baaaaaa-d addition to your birthday party would he, Angus?

Let’s thank Freddie for being with us today!     (claps)

(Freddie goes back behind the door and closes it)

Host: So, Angus, what did you think of Freddie?

Angus: He sounds like a nice guy, but I’m not sure we have as much in common. I love going hiking through the pastures and exploring new fields. I’m just not sure I would have much to talk about with a bird who just stays at home and watches Netflix.

Host: Well you still have one more guest to interview before you will have to make a decision!

Everyone please give a warm welcome to our final guest for this morning, Ellie!

(applause)

Guest 3:  Thanks for having me here! (elephant sound effect)

Angus: Hey Ellie, so tell me…what is the best birthday present you ever received?

Guest 3:  Well I’ve lived a long life so I’ve gotten a lot of presents over the years. I can’t really remember any birthday presents I’ve received in recently though.  But one time when I was a little elephant, my mother gave me a watch. I wore that watch every day! It was really special.

Angus: That’s cool.     Now Ellie, what are your favorite foods to eat?

Guest 3:  Well……. (pauses and looks confused)….wait what was your name again?

Angus: Angus.

Guest 3: Oh right…. Angus.  Well, Angus. I really love anything sweet- cakes, cookies, pies! I hope there will be birthday cake at your birthday party Angus!

Angus: I’m sure there will be!     Ellie my last question for you is:   If you could have any super power, what would you choose and why?

Guest 3: Well my problem these days is that I just can’t seem to remember anything! Life is just so confusing sometimes, I guess that happens when you get older. I never can remember where I’ve left my glasses let alone other things that are more important. So, I’d like the super power of being able to remember everything!

Angus: I could have sworn they taught us in school that elephants never forget!

I’ve always wanted to fly but my dad says that I have as much chance of being able to fly as pigs do!

Host: Well that is all the time we have for interviews today. Thank you Ellie and all of our mystery guests for being with us today!  We are going to take a short break while Angus decides WHO will be his guest!

(Ellie goes back behind the door and closes it)

(Cue My Love Open the Door music)
