Faith Formation Opportunities This Fall

Decatur Presbyterian Church 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, United States

Dear Adult Members and Friends of Decatur Presbyterian Church, Worship is the heartbeat of the church. When we gather for worship, we offer our prayers, we sing praises before God, we listen for God’s Word, we are fed at God’s Table, and we are refreshed in our commitments to God and others. From this sacred time of worship, we are sent back into our daily lives encouraged in faith, hope, and love. Faith Formation classes and groups hold a different but related importance. When we gather in smaller groups, we learn and grow with others. We talk together about what matters to us and to the world. We share joys, address important questions, and have a space to express our deep concerns. In classes and small groups, we renew and nurture relationships as we love and support one another through the various trials of life, family, and career. As the fall season approaches, your pastors and session encourage each of you, from our youngest adults to our eldest, to engage in one of our Faith Formation groups, preferably on a regular, weekly basis, but at least on a monthly basis. Whether Sunday mornings or Monday nights, or Wednesday early mornings or evenings, or after worship on Sundays works best for you, we have a place for you to engage. Whether in person or online, you will be welcomed. See the reverse side of this page for more information about our fall opportunities. Friends, for your sake and the sake of the world, prioritize a time to gather with others for adult faith formation. Let us all recommit to learn and grow together, to talk about what matters, and to renew and strengthen our relationships of faith. In this new season, may we truly live as healthy and vital disciples of Jesus Christ. Thank you for offering your hands on deck so that, together, we may energize and deepen the sharing of Christ’s love for the world. Grace and peace, Todd Fall 2022 Adult Faith Formation Opportunities For more information about the groups and curriculums, email info@dpchurch.org Sunday Mornings The Family Class is a new class for both parents and their children which will meet downstairs on the Children’s Hall at 9:30am for fellowship and a Bible story, then practice engaging with the story together as a family. The Fellowship Class meets in the Upstairs Conference Room at 9:15am. This newly revived class for adults of various ages enjoys a discussion-type class and regular Fellowship events, such as the Kickoff BBQ on Sat, Aug 6 at 6:30pm at the home of Reynolds and Joe Delisle. The Friendship Class meets online by Zoom at 8:45am. The group follows the weekly worship scripture and themes. This has been a helpful option for many who have been physically unable to attend, either due to health or geographic location. The Crusaders Class, which has been meeting for over 60 years, meets in the Parlor Classroom at 9:15am.  The relationships of these class members have inspired our congregation for generations. Excellent, engaging teachers lead this lecture-style class. The Cornerstone Class, ably led by Dave and Dina Williams, has a broad and interesting discussion curriculum with a hybrid option for those who are not available to meet in person. This class meets in the Session Room at 9:00am. Weekday Opportunities During the week, Rev. Vernon Gramling leads two Faith in Real Life opportunities - one on Monday nights at 7:00pm and the other on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am. Vernon elicits fruitful and relevant discussion over the scripture text for the coming Sunday. Our worship is enhanced weekly by those who have already spent time with the text for the day, and the lives of the participants are enriched by their shared experiences. On Wednesdays at 5:30pm, Todd Speed leads our Faithful Living class, a relevant, engaging discussion class in the Parlor Classroom. Most of the attendees choose to stay for the intergenerational dinner afterwards in the Fellowship Hall at 6:15pm. There are three monthly options for women of the church for small group fellowship. After their special retreat on August 27, there will be a daytime group on the second Tuesdays, an evening group on the second Thursdays, and a new group on the second Sundays after worship at Twain’s. Wednesday Morning Bible Study meets Wednesdays at 7:15 to 8:15am via Zoom.  The group uses the LifeChange study guide series available on Amazon and discusses books of the Bible one at a time.  All ages welcome. We rotate leadership and encourage open discussion.  Contact Dudleylarus@gmail.com to get the Zoom link.
