Special Guest: Beate Sass presents “Real Stories, Real People”

Decatur Presbyterian Church 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, United States

Decatur Presbyterian will host local photographer Beate Sass on April 19th at 6:30pm for its Wednesday night program. Beate will present her project entitled "Real Stories, Real People." The project is a compilation of photo essays that depict the lives of individuals living with a developmental disability. Her aim is to bring to light all the ways people with developmental disabilities have real dreams that involve furthering their education, getting a job, living independently and creating lasting friendships, and to educate about the challenges posed to these people. Support through a Medicaid waiver is often needed to fulfill these dreams. Real Stories, Real People provides intimate portrayals of lives well lived as a result of resources provided by a Medicaid waiver and lives lacking meaning or challenged by severe hardship due to inadequate support. Real Stories, Real People was created to educate the public and policymakers about the value of investing in the future of their fellow Georgians living with a developmental disability. Before the presentation, Beate's photographs will be presented on the walls in the McGeachy building on the second floor, beginning April 1st.  To learn more about Beate Sass and "Real Stories, Real People," visit her website.

Longest Night Prayer Service

Decatur Presbyterian Church 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, United States

On December 20th at 6:30 p.m., we will gather in Scott chapel to sing, pray, and light candles together. We will light candles to remember those whom we have loved and lost, to redeem the pain of loss, for those who experience loss of direction in their lives, and to recall the hope we have in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, our Lord. You will also have the opportunity to pray with the pastors and be anointed with oil, if you wish. If you or someone you know has experienced difficulty or loss in this last year, we invite you to come. Childcare will be provided. May the hope of the Christ Child sustain us in the darkness that together we may shine again.

Decatur Presbyterian Church 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, United States

Decatur Presbyterian Church will host guest speaker Jill Joyner, on Wednesday, March 21st to teach about how we can better listen to those impacted by #metoo moments.  As a society, our ability to listen to one another has diminished at a time when the need to listen could never be greater. Decatur Presbyterian Church will host a special presentation series during Lent to focus on listening, to each other, to those with whom we disagree, to scripture, to those from other cultures, and to those whose voices have previously been silenced. We hope that through this series, we might all become better listeners. All are invited to join!
